Test and Inspection
Periodically testing and inspecting fixed wiring and accessories within a property is a specialised field. There are legal requirements dictating the periods in which different categories of buildings require a periodic test. In addition some Insurance companies enforce more frequent inspections in some circumstances. Different categories of building fall under different guidelines. In domestic dwellings for example, it is necessary for a landlord to have the wiring inspected on the change of tenant as well as the standard frequency. It is not simply about having a clean electrical bill of health, it is an active way to prevent injury or even prevent fire breaking out. With the modern man perceiving he has the skills to tackle almost anything, many substandard and dangerous installations have been creeping into domestic dwellings. The Government has launched a new building regulation, Part P. This will ensure over the next few years that only approved Part P domestic contractors may carry out works and self certificate them to the local authority and the dwelling occupant. Any contractor not registered will need to have the work inspected by the local authority at additional cost. The law came into force on the 1st of January 2005.
